Rhino conservation project in South Africa leads to newly named bull.

Meet Libby... this beautiful white rhino has touched our hearts.

On a recent trip to South Africa, AB Sundecks owner, Derek Beaumont and his family had the amazing opportunity to be involved in the country's rhino conservation project.

The day started with the usual 4.30am wake up call before setting out to the plains to meet the conservation team. They each played a roll in the protection of this beautiful species. The helicopter aided by the vet went up to search for the rhino and sedate him ready for the land vehicles to move in with all the medicine and equipment required to check his health and identity.

Once the rhino was relaxed and lay down all the team were able move in to do what was necessary in protecting and prolonging the life of this South African white rhino.

Everyone was able to help in some way and get up close to the bull who was very calm and relaxed. After all the checks had been done and medicines administered the rhino was brought round and was very happy to be on his way with a clean bill of health.

The icing on the cake came about 6 hours later when the ranger confirmed that the rhino could in fact be renamed Libby after Derek's niece who fell in love with rhinos after her work experience at Flamingo Land Zoo.
