It seemed like a mission impossible when Covid-19 struck just as plans were underway for two large new pieces of steel fabricating machinery at the AB Sundecks factory in Walkden, however some 18 months on and they have finally arrived. The huge rise in costs over the last 3 years led to the design of these two brand-new bespoke pieces of equipment, implemented to reduce steel waste at the factory and streamline production to make everything even more efficient and cost effective.
‘It was always part of our plan as the pressure from supply and demand increased but the timing couldn’t have been more wrong. What was meant to take around 6 months from signing off the design took almost two years to arrive,’ said Neil Jukes, Warehouse Manager at AB Sundecks. ‘We are thankful that we were still able to continue with business as usual but the effect of Covid meant prices went through the roof and, like most businesses struggling through the pandemic we just had to suck it up the best we could hoping for better days to come.’
‘Thanks to all the hard work and support from the everyone involved we took delivery of the new machines at the weekend and are pleased to report that they do exactly what they were designed for. In time we hope to see the benefits of our investment, which will in return also benefit our customers and reduce our carbon footprint even further, ultimately increasing our efficiency in this area ten-fold.’
AB Sundecks are always looking for new and innovative ways to improve their products and production believing that what they do is at the forefront of their industry. Continuing to reinvest in its future shows how committed the company is to retaining its reputation as the UK’s leading decking manufacturers and installers.
