This weekend the Bike 4 A Life team, headed up by AB Sundecks’ Derek and Laura Beaumont, will be setting off on their incredible 208 mile bike ride to the capital in aid of Life For A Kid.
The 11 man strong team, which includes past Leigh Centurions coaches, Neil Jukes and John Duffy, will depart from Leigh Sports Village, home of the Leigh Centurions and cycle 208 miles to the Cherry Red Records Stadium, home of the London Broncos. Setting off early on Saturday morning hoping to arrive in time for the rugby league fixture, Leigh Centurions V London Broncos.
The team have been training for a few months to get match fit and are in high spirits as they lead up to the start date. They rode to Newcastle this time last year, 142 miles over the Yorkshire Dales, so they wanted to extend their challenge and this time by another 66 miles.
Laura Beaumont commented “Last years challenge was a real struggle mentally and physically but it gives us a good idea of what to expect this time. The support we received from everyone throughout the journey was truly inspirational. I have to pay particular homage to the support team who were with us all the way and we would have been lost without them (no pun intended)! Mike Latham, Gill Wood, Neil Crane, Neil and Pam Lloyd-Roberts will be with us again this year along with Tony Maplesden and members of our family to get us safely and smiling to the finish line. In addition to these people guiding us it is the support of the wider community, which includes those who have donated to our page and left beautiful messages and the families supported by the Life For A Kid charity, that we will be carrying in our hearts as we grind out turn after turn after turn in all weathers to achieve our goal. Thank you all so, so much! We got this!!”
The team have also been given tremendous support from sponsors who can be seen on their unique cycling shirts, designed by Amara Phoenix and Ellgren, and all of their support vehicles which will accompany them all the way. (Edu Lettings, Retirement Professionals, First Step Vehicle Solutions, Highland Holidays, Farmigea Ophthalmics UK, Struktura, JR’s Taxis Leigh, Latham Baxendale Accountants, Leisure Resorts, ABI Holiday Homes, GM Projects, Liniar Ltd, Roy Braidwood, Crown Oils Bury, Carrylift, Mototrscreens, Elvis Eckhardt, Thornley Leisure, TAG Forklift, Static World, Nant Newydd Holiday Park, Wigan Electrical, Eye Corp, Zeus Corp, SDH, Meadow Springs Holiday Park, NFU Bury, Mr Tyre, BT O’sullivan, Ellgren, AB Sundecks, C-Kab Mouldings and The Colony)
