Despite all the setbacks our Leopards in Lycra made it across the finish line with only a couple of casualties. Six out of eight contenders successfully completed the challenge with two pulling up through injury and while we are utterley proud of everyone we must pay special homage to our leader, Derek Beaumont.
Derek battled so many challenges to get to the start line but once the claxon sounded we knew that there was no way he would be stopped from reaching the finish. With ankle injuries, back injuries and then mechanical problems throughout the course it seemed impossible but with 15 minutes to spare he reigned victorious as he crossed that finish line to a raucous applause.
The entire team celebrated with pizza and beers at the Retreat in Bolton topped off with an England victory to boot.
So far they have raised a staggering £20,000 for Wigan and Leigh Hospice and have pledged to continue their efforts in a bid to reach the £30,000 target.
With a few extra Leopards in Lycra they will cycle the 62 miles from Manchester to Blackpool next week so if you see them along the way give them a big cheer!!
