So as we drive the last truck out of Cottingham, away from the Caravan Extravaganza showground, we reminisce of the years gone by at such a fabulous and well attended event....
Our love affair with the lawns started around ten years ago when we partnered with the industry leaders, Willerby Holiday Homes, to bring a new way of exhibiting their holiday homes to generate the ideal image when it came to owning a static caravan.
Us Brits love to holiday by the seaside and our very own childhood nostalgia always kicks in when we think of holidaying in caravans. Those carefree and fun filled days running along Ilfracombe Beach or high speed donkey rides on Blackpool front, windswept and sun kissed with not a care in the world. As we grow older we like to think we can recreate those memories for our children and grandchildren but the truth is we’ll never know if they’ll feel the same way as we did, especially as the old Punch and Judy Show sets up stall and we wonder, in this digital age, what do our children really think? Will they still want to caravan long into the future?
Well, almost 10 years on from our first Lawns Show and we are still building sundecks and the holiday home leaders are still pushing the boundaries when it comes to owning that very piece of classic British holidaying. We can say that the years of constantly pushing and striving to keep up with the latest holiday home models has only further cemented our success as the country’s leading decking manufacturers. We have developed new and innovative products to keep up with ever changing and ever demanding leisure industry. It’s difficult to say but without the lawns we may not have pushed as hard as we have so we are thankful for the platform to be able to showcase our products to the leisure market.
Since our inception we have supplied decking on the showgrounds of ABI, Carnaby Caravans, Europa, Cambrian Lodges, Pemberton Leisure Homes, Omar Homes, IRM amongst others to name a few. Our journeys with each of these amazing companies has brought about some of the best friendships we have known. We have pushed ourselves to the limits and learned some valuable lessons along the way.
The Lawns has never been an easy ride. We have found ourselves over stretching our budgets, our workforce, our creative abilities but every step of this journey has generated new ideas and new capabilities that we may never have known we had, but probably most importantly it has brought into our lives some of the most wonderful friendships we have known, we have laughed together, we have cried together, we have pulled out our hair together but to no end we have stuck together. There have been many changes over our time at the Lawns and here are just a few of our favourite memories so far;
Bradley Walsh at the Willerby dooooooo, possibly the funniest night of the Lawns, ever. Especially when he got Derek to pay £1000 for a Hull KR shirt!!
Digging out the footings to sink a hot tub, with a spade!!!!
Eating rice pudding with actual jam as garnish at the KC stadium with Pembertons.
Watching a certain person wobble off our show deck after one too many of Colin’s cocktails.
Entertaining the crowds with a comedian and a singer despite the pouring rain… which came to be a common sighting at the Lawns.
Hiring a full size F1 simulator and loving it that much we bought it!! And it is still going strong!
All of our memories of the lawns are fond and despite their being some sticky moments, we have looked back and smiled each time.
As people spread their wings to reach out to destinations across the world it is a great comfort to know that this age old British tradition is still alive and very much producing some of the most luxurious holidays of our time.
We all come home in the end.
